Hello and greetngs from Waitangi

(I wrote the text last week. I'm currently back in Whangarei)

This is already my fifth time here for our “cross-cultural missions week,” and as always, I’m learning a lot of new things. Something I keep coming back to is that God is far too great to express Himself in just one culture. That’s why it’s important what I (as a Swiss / as someone from Bern / as a Juillard …) have to offer – but also that I can take off my own “glasses” in order to get to know God in a new way. In a way that He especially revealed Himself to the Māori. Or the Fijians. Or …

Even though God is the same everywhere in the world, I cannot expect to meet Him in Fiji in the exact same way I do at home. I want to be open to meeting God as He wants to reveal Himself to me.

A sobering example: The Pharisees waited their whole lives for the Messiah and, in a sense, devoted their entire lives to it. Yet they missed Him because He was different from what they had expected.

I’m doing very well. This school is very different from the last one, and we again have an extremely great group – this time with the “Music & Worship” and the “Outdoor Pursuits” streams. I’m also learning a lot in areas like leadership, Sabbath, work ethic, and rest/free time. It’s not always easy, but it’s always very good. And of course, I also enjoy the benefits of it🙂

Despite that, I’m also happy to announce that I’ll be going back to Fiji in December for six weeks. This time, however, we’ll be focusing more on reaching the Indians in Fiji. While the Fijians themselves are very Christian and often quite religious, the Indians are mostly Muslim and Hindu. They often don’t get along very well with the Fijians, and their culture is vastly different. So even though I’m going back to a country I’ve already been to and that is very close to my heart, we are still entering relatively new territory.

There also aren’t many other teams that go to the Indians, which makes our mission even more exciting.

Apart from me, the team consists only of women, which is something new for me as well. Unfortunately, it’s a very common trend in the mission field – but for me, that’s totally fine for this trip. They are an awesome bunch!

But if you do know any young men who would benefit from a DTS or are interested in missions, make sure to recommend our Surf and Outdoor DTS in January😉

Now I hope you enjoy the pictures and videos, and see you next time.

Testimony

Kiana had severe back pain for many years — even simple things like walking up stairs were hard, and she couldn’t lean backwards much further than straight upright. While we were at a Bethel Church gathering, the pastor said he felt that God wanted to heal someone with intense back pain. Before anyone even had the chance to pray for her, she was already healed.

This video was filmed that same evening.
